History

Founded in 2007 by artist Michal Wisniowski, Aniwave was first held in Wilmington, North Carolina at the Cameron Art Museum and at Jengo's Playhouse as three separate events. The following year, in 2008, Aniwave continued with a three-event format and added Level 5 At City Stage as its third location[2]. In 2009, the festival was taken back to two locations, being the Cameron Art Museum and The Soapbox[3].

As of 2010, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization Aniwave, Inc. was formed to govern the growing festival. As a result, several changes in programming, location, and overall format have been made. The current location of Aniwave is the new Wilmington Convetion Center in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.
