Anacafé

Asociación Nacional del Café (ANACAFE) (established November 4, 1960 in Guatemala City) [1] is the Guatemalan National Coffee Association, representing all coffee producers in the country.

It was initiated by the precursors to the International Coffee Organization, as a way of centralizing statistics of the nation's coffee production as it continued the work of La Oficina Central del Café, previously established and operated by the central government which in turn was established in 1928.

ANACAFE has since established the Guatemalan Coffees brand, defined the eight coffee regions under the slogan "A Rainbow of Choices". The regions are:

  1. Acatenango Valley
  2. Antigua Coffee
  3. Traditional Atitlan
  4. Rainforest Coban
  5. Fraijanes Plateau
  6. Highland Huehue
  7. New Oriente
  8. Volcanic San Marcos

ANACAFE has also built the Analab coffee laboraties, the FUNCAFÉ program for children, and the El Cafetal coffee magazine. ANACAFE represents Guatemala in the International Coffee Organizations meetings, and receives income only from service charges on every exported coffee item.
