Ammapattinam

Ammapattinam is a coastal village in Tamil Nadu, India with exclusively Muslim population

There are two main streets called "South" and "North" along with a number of satellite hamlets each. North is populated with Muslims who follow imam Shafi while south with imam Hanabi. Although both speak Tamil, they vastly differ in custom. There are six mosques. Another Nahjath mosque is coming up in north street.

People here are mostly orthodox Muslims. Women lead a secluded life without venturing out in the day without male guardian. Each street has its own Jamath committee which administer Waqf properties and resolve minor disputes among them. Almost 75 % people are engaged in grocery business in and around Thanjavur district. Nowadays, they go far away to Cumbum and Sathiyamangalam.One light house is present in Athipattinam that is part of the Ammapattinam village.In Athipattinam, new mosque building work is going on.
