History

Amerigroup – which began as AMERICAID Community Care - was founded in 1994 to meet the needs of families enrolled in publicly funded health care programs.

Over the past 15 years, Amerigroup has grown rapidly. Today, we serve 2 million members in 11 states. By focusing on improving access to preventive care and facilitating access to the right care at the right time in the proper health care setting, we improve health outcomes, better the lives of our members and reduce costs for the states we serve.[2]

Mission

Provide Real Solutions for members who need a little help by making the health care system work better while keeping it more affordable for taxpayers.[3]

Ethics

Ameigroup maintains a compliance and ethics program consistent with recommendations set forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program seeks to prevent, detect, and effectively address and resolve potential violations of law, regulation, or Company policy, and is evaluated and updated on a routine basis

Amerigroup’s Board of Directors, through its Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, as well as senior management – including the Company’s Chief Compliance Officer and Executive Compliance Committee – oversees the Company’s national compliance and ethics program. This program includes a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, to which all associates must attest, as well as related policies and procedures and various educational communications.

Amerigroup provides a number of ways for associates to report potential violations of law, regulation, or Company policy. In reporting these potential violations, an associate may remain anonymous if he/she wants to do so. No associate can be retaliated against for making a good faith report. We hold ourselves accountable for responding promptly and appropriately to reports of potential violations.[4]
