Allegany County Transit's Fixed Route service serves the areas of Cumberland, Frostburg and La Vale with seven routes Monday through Friday. Fares for this service are $2.00, half fares are for senior citizens card holders, disabled, or for those with Medicare, and children 5 or younger ride for free.[1]
The regular weekday service includes a Red Line, Red Line Express, Yellow Line, Green Line, Gold Line, White Line and Blue Lines. The Red Line has three different trips, all which begin at Value City, in Downtown Cumberland. The first trip, Red Line Trip 1, services South Cumberland, which includes Maryland Avenue and Virginia Avenue. Red Line Trip 2 services Frederick Street, Bedford Road, and Bedford Street. Red Line Trip 3 serves North Cumberland, Columbia Avenue, Furnace Street, Henderson Avenue, and Mechanic Street. The express service is primarily designed to funnel hospital workers, primary users of the bus, to their places of employment. The Yellow Line serves the West Side of Cumberland, Cumberland Street, Fayette St, and Greene Street. The Green Line covers LaVale and Cresaptown, Centre Street, National Highway, also known as Route 40, Winchester Road, and McMullen Highway, also known as Route 220, and Greene Street.[1]
The Gold Line services LaVale and Frostburg. It is the only bus route that does not begin at Value City. It begins at the Country Club Mall on Vocke Road; then it continues on National Highway (Route 40), Main Street, Bowery Street, and Broadway. The White Line serves Maple Side, Maryland Avenue, Oldtown Road, Utah Avenue, and South Street. The Blue Line also has trips like the red line. The Blue Line Trip 1 serves Cumberland, Decature Street, Baltimore Avenue, Willow Brooke Road, and Williams Road. The Blue Line Trip 2 route serves Cumberland and LaVale.[1]
The Allegany County Maryland Board of Commissioners in early August 2007 developed a doomsday budget where it will shut down transit operations if the State of Maryland government cuts $8 million in funds to the county.
