Playing career

Cork City

Carey came through the youths at Cork City. He fell from Pat Dolan's favour and Neal Horgan made the right-back position his own so he signed for Waterford United in 2004.[1]

Waterford United

Carey signed for Waterford United in 2004 and finished as runners up in the FAI Cup that year.

Cobh Ramblers

Carey signed for Cobh Ramblers in 2005. He played primarily on the right side of midfield with Ramblers. He became the club captain in 2007.[2] He was named in the 2007 PFAI First Division Team of the Year.[3] and won the League of Ireland First Division. He continued to play for Cobh in the Premier Division in 2008, but they were relegated that year.

Waterford United

Carey signed for Waterford United again in 2009 and returned to his more accustomed right back position, and made the position his own. He was a virtual ever-present for Waterford, the few games that he missed his absence was keenly felt.[4] He was again named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year in both 2009[5] and 2010.[6]

Cork City

Carey returned to Cork City in 2011.[7][8] He left City by mutual consent in May 2011.[9]
