Al-Yamamah Private University

Al Yamamah University (YU) (Arabic: جامعة اليمامة Ǧāmaʿat Al Yamamah) is a private university based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education[1]. It was founded by the Al Khudair family, who in 1957 established Al-Tarbiyah Al-Namouthajiyah Schools (Arabic: مدارس التربية النموذجية), the first private schools in Riyadh.

The university comprises the Colleges of Business Administration and Computing and Information Systems as well as the Deanship of Continuing Education and Community Service, and admits male and female students. It takes pride in the quality of its career-oriented education, the splendor of its campus, the variety of its extracurricular activities, and the purposeful involvement of its students. It maintains a number of collaborative relationships with top tier academic institutions for the purpose of designing its curricula, enriching its programs, and providing its students and faculty members with opportunities for exchanging information and experience.

Students at the university are eligible for financial support from the Ministry of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia.

History

Al Yamamah commenced operations as Al Yamamah College (YC) in 2001 and accepted its first male students in 2004 and its first female students in 2006. It was promoted to university status by a royal decree by King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud in Dec. 2008[2].

The first graduation ceremony was held in June 2009 under the patronage of HRH Prince Sattam bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.

In November 2009, a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony was held under the patronage of HRH Princess Adela Bint Abdullah Al Saud in honor of the new women’s campus

It was formerly called Al-Yamamah College.[3] The university is a part of a kingdom-wide effort to enable Saudis to attend university in Saudi Arabia.[4]

Al Yamamah College (YC) was established in May 2001 by Al-Khudair family as their second major contribution to education in Saudi Arabia after establishing the first private school in Riyadh in 1957. Authorized as an institution of higher learning by the Ministry of Higher Education, Al Yamamah College opened its doors to male students in September 2004 and to female students in September 2006.

In Dec. 2008, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, issued a royal decree promoting Al Yamamah College to a University (YU). Right now, Al Yamamah is a comprehensive university pioneering in offering a wide variety of concentrations in the fields of Business Administration and Computing & IT.

 YU offers the BBA with concentration options of the following business disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Insurance, Management Information Systems (MIS) and Quality Management.

   
 YU offers a Bachelor's Degree in Computing and IT (BCIT) with concentration options of the following disciplines: Programming and Databases, Networking and Security, Electronic Commerce, and Graphics and Multimedia. 

The University’s campus was built at a total cost of S.R.300 million (approximately US$ 80 million).
