It is a myth that Jubour form a high percentage of the population in Baqubah, they are a minority dispersed in few areas. The Shamers form a large percentage of the population in the Baqubah & vicenity like Balad, Mandaly and Bohriz. Also, el-azza tribe contributes a good population percentage in the basin of diyala river around al-guba. Furthermore, there are al-Jiburi in Diwaniyya who are Shi’a. The Shi’a of al-Jiburi were converted to Shi’ism just before or during the 19th century.[1] Other ethnic groups lives in Baqubah like Turkman of al-salihi tribe & al-bayat, kurd as well as babiyeen/bahaee group & around 100 families of Mendians. Baqubah is a multi-ethnic city with all the spectrum of Iraqi population. According to professor Mustafa Jawad of El-khalis city, the name Baqubah originated from Aramaic language from Bab Oquba, which mean the gate of the customs police.
