بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ
English Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani:
When the sky will split apart, [1] and will listen to (the command of) its Lord, and it ought to, [2] and when the earth will be stretched (to give room to more people), [3] and it will throw up whatever it contains, and will become empty, [4] and will listen to (the command of) its Lord, and it ought to, (then man will see the consequences of his deeds.) [5] O man, you have to work hard constantly to reach your Lord, then you have to meet Him. [6] So, as for him whose book (of deeds) will be given to him in his right hand, [7] he will be called to account in an easy manner, [8] and he will go back to his people joyfully. [9] As for the one whose book (of deeds) will be given to him from his back side, [10] he will pray for death, [11] and will enter the blazing fire. [12] He had been joyful among his people. [13] He thought he would never revert (to Allah). [14] Why not? Indeed his Lord was watchful over him. [15] So, I swear by the twilight (after sunset), [16] and by the night and what it envelops, [17] and by the moon when it develops at the full, [18] you shall certainly ascend from stage to stage. [19] So, what has happened to them that they do not believe, [20] and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not offer sajdah (prostration)? [21] Rather, those who disbelieve deny (the truth). [22] And Allah is most aware of what they store. [23] So give him the 'good news' of a painful punishment, [24] but those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them there is a reward that will never be interrupted. [25]
English Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall:
When the heaven is split asunder [1] And attentive to her Lord in fear, [2] And when the earth is spread out [3] And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty[4] And attentive to her Lord in fear! [5] Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). [6] Then whoso is given his account in his right hand [7] He truly will receive an easy reckoning [8] And will return unto his folk in joy. [9] But whoso is given his account behind his back, [10] He surely will invoke destruction [11] And be thrown to scorching fire. [12] He verily lived joyous with his folk, [13] He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). [14] Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! [15] Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, [16] And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, [17] And by the moon when she is at the full, [18] That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. [19] What aileth them, then, that they believe not [20] And, when the Qur’an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? [21] Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; [22] And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. [23] So give them tidings of a painful doom, [24] Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. [25]
English Translation by Yusuf Ali:
When the sky is rent asunder, [1] And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- [2] And when the earth is flattened out, [3] And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, [4] And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). [5] O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord-painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. [6] Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, [7] Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, [8] And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! [9] But he who is given his Record behind his back,- [10] Soon will he cry for perdition, [11] And he will enter a Blazing Fire. [12] Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! [13] Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! [14] Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! [15] So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; [16] The Night and its Homing; [17] And the Moon in her fullness: [18] Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. [19] What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- [20] And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, [21] But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). [22] But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) [23] So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, [24] Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. [25]
English Translation by Dr. Mohsin:
When the heaven is split asunder, [1] And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; [2] And when the earth is stretched forth, [3] And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, [4] And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so;[5] O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). [6] Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand,[7] He surely will receive an easy reckoning,[8] And will return to his family in joy![9] But whosoever is given his Record behind his back,[10] He will invoke (his) destruction,[11] And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning.[12] Verily, he was among his people in joy![13] Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! [14] Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him![15] So I swear by the afterglow of sunset;[16] And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness;[17] And by the moon when it is at the full,[18] You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter).[19] What is the matter with them, that they believe not? [20] And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate,[21] Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.).[22] And Allah Knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds),[23] So announce to them a painful torment.[24] Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise).[25]
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيم
Say, In (or with) the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Beginning is with Allah's personal name Ar'Reh'maan Who is The Fountain of Infinite Mercy. [Note: It should be remembered that it is not the written text/part/Ayah of سُورة [Chapter 84] and hence it is never numbered. For convenience of those readers who are already believers, this is traditionally printed since it is commanded in the Qur'aan to read/recite with the Name of Sustainer Lord, The Creator]
