The Al-Ahly (Benghazi) Men’s Basketball Team (Arabic: الأهلي بنغازي) is a Libyan basketball club based in the eastern coastal city of Benghazi, Libya. Housni Shembesh is the current club president and Othman Al-Mozogy is the head coach. Founded in 1950, the Al-Ahly (Benghazi) sports club has its roots in a political party known as the Omar al Mukhtar society.
Libyan Basketball League 2008-09
During the Libyan Basketball League 2008-09 season, Al-Ahly Benghazi placed third overall, behind Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr. Ahmed Saad Dhib, a shooting guard for Al-Ahli Benghazi, was awarded the best basket of the season.[1] In the final championship playoff standings, Al-Nasr finished with 13 points, followed by Al-Ittihad (10), Al-Ahli Benghazi (9) and Al-Ahli Tripoli with seven points.[2]
