Ajbelj is a settlement in the Kostel municipality in southern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.[2]
The local church, dedicated to Saint Bartholomew, built in the 17th century on a hill to the south of the main settlement, is a ruin. Only a part of the sanctuary wall survives and in 1922 the church bells were transferred to a small chapel in the settlement.[3]
