Ajana is a small town in Western Australia located on the Ajana Back Road 531 kilometres (330 mi) north-west of Perth in the Mid West Region

The name of the town is Aboriginal in origin and is thought either to be the local name for the area or to come from the Aboriginal word meaning "mine".

The townsite was declared in 1915.[2]

A telegraph station, built in 1845, located at the nearby Mount View provided early communications for the town. The station later became a post office in 1922. A school was built in the town in 1944.[3]

Railways

It was the terminus of a branch line of the Western Australian Government Railways. The line opened on 6 January 1913 and closed on 29 April 1957.[4] A railway dam was constructed to supply water for steam engines in 1913.
