Geography

The commune consists of a scattering of hamlets over a large territory.

History

During the Wars of Religion, particularly from 1586 to 1591, the village was devastated. The fort was taken and retaken; nothing remains of it except a tower south of the village. In 1670, Ailhon participated in a rebellion caused by a false rumor about an increase in taxes. The insurgents were massacred by the king's armies on the plain of Lavilledieu and Roure and the survivors condemned to be tortured on the wheel.

During the French Revolution, a band of brigands scoured the territory. They were executed at Saint-Cirgues-de-Prades in May 1800.
