Agromonas
Agromonas is a genus in the phylum Proteobacteria (Bacteria).[1]
Etymology
The name Agromonas derives from:
Greek noun agros, a field; Greek feminine gender noun monas (μονάς / μονάδα), nominally meaning "a unit", but in effect meaning a bacterium; New Latin feminine gender noun Agromonas, field monad.[2]
Members of the genus Agromonas can be referred to as agromonads (viz. Trivialisation of names).
Species
The genus contains a single species,[2] namely A. oligotrophica [3] (Type species of the genus).; Greek adjective oligos (ὀλίγος)[4], little, small, few; New Latin feminine gender adjective trophica (from Greek feminine gender adjective trophikē (τροφική)[5]), nursing, tending or feeding; New Latin feminine gender adjective oligotrophica, eating low nutrients.)[6]
