Agi Mishol

Agi Mishol (1946 - ) is an Israeli poet.

Biography

Mishol was born in Transylvania, Romania, to Hungarian-speaking parents and brought to Israel as a young child. Her parents ran a grocery store in Gedera and spoke mainly Hungarian at home. Mishol holds BA and MA degrees in Hebrew literature from Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Mishol is married to Giora Fried and lives on a farm in Kfar Mordechai. They have two children, Maya and Uri. ^[1]

Literary career

Mishol is the author of a dozen volumes of poetry. Her most recent book is "House Call," published in Israel in summer of 2009. The title poem deals with her experience as the daughter of Holocaust survivors. Mishol has given poetry workshops at Israeli universities and teaches literature at the Alma College in Tel Aviv.

Awards

Mishol won the Yehuda Amichai Prize in 2002 and the Dolitsky Prize in 2007. A collection of her work in English, "Look There" (translated by Lisa Katz) was published in 2006.
