Aghion

Aghion is a [Spanish] surname originally deriving from the Northern Spanish town of Ayllon. They settled in Thessaloniki under the Ottoman Empire after the Spanish expulsion of 1492. The name changed over the years to Aelyon then Aelion. One branch settled in Amsterdam Holland, with offspring reaching Alexandria Egypt in the early 1700's. On the 6th August 1853 one member of the family and his children officially changed their surname to Aghion. All Aghions derive from that change of name.
