Agamudayar (Tamil: அகமுடையார் or Akamudayar, Agamudayan) is a Tamil community found throughout the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. In southern Tamil Nadu, the Agamudayar are one of the three castes which make up the Mukkulathor community;

Etymology

The term Agamudayar is a Tamil word meaning "Householder" or "Landlord". The Agamudayars are chiefly known by their title 'Servai' or 'Servaikkaran' meaning "Captain" in Sangam Tamil.[2]

Traditional professions

Tamil Nadu people know very well about Agamudayars. They are from Marthu Pandiyar Brothers blood. Marthu Brothers and their people are the very Brave men of Tamilnadu.

The Marudhu Pandiyar (Tamil: மருது பாண்டியர்) brothers (Periya Marudhu and Chinna Marudhu) ruled Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu towards the end of the 18th century. The Marudhu brothers were the first to issue a proclamation of independence from the colonial British rule from Trichy Thiruvarangam Temple, Tamil Nadu on 10 June 1801, more than 56 years before what is generally said to be the First War of Indian Independence which broke out mainly in Northern India in the year 1857.

W. Francis writes about Agamudayars that they are "a cultivating caste found in all the Tamil districts'. However, most Agamudayars are found in olden Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli districts." Agamudayars are the most brahminised of the Mukkulathor community. Agamudayar also signifies the meaning of a particular profession is Emperor. Emperor's personal body guard or trusted servants (ie mercenaries) in the palace of a Tamil ruler whose office it was to attend to the business in the Interior's of the King's Palace or in the Pagoda".

Meaning of "Agam" in Tamil is self prestidge and interior of palace. These people are most Trustworthy, Loyal in the human race at the same time Brave.

Agamudayaars have a population of more than 10 million, distributed in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. Also they had settled in the countries of Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar. Agamudayars use the following titles in the following areas:
