Aert Mijtens (ca.1541, Brussels – 1602, Rome), was a Flemish Renaissance painter.
According to Karel van Mander he travelled to Rome where he was called Renaldo and became a friend of the painter Hans Speckaert. He painted in the studio of another Flemish painter there called Anthoni Santvoort, called the green Anthonis, who painted Marias (Maria Magior) on copper.[1]
According to the RKD is the oldest known painter in a family of painters named Mijtens or Mytens. He was the uncle of the court painter Daniel Mijtens and Isaac Mijtens. He was active in Brussels, Rome, Naples, Aquila, and The Hague. He became the teacher of Barend van Someren. [2]
