Adio Footwear is a skateboarding footwear and clothing company, founded by skater Chris Miller in 1999. It was later acquired by K2, based in Carlsbad, California. K2 was acquired by the Jarden Corporation in 2007.[1]
Its name is pronounced "audio" or "ad-e-o". In its early years the company sponsored the Adio Footwear professional skateboarding and snowboarding team. Team members as of 2004 included Shaun White, Jeremy Wray, Tony Hawk, Ed Selego, Danny Montoya, Bam Margera, Brian Sumner, Kenny Anderson, Alex Chalmers and Steve Nesser.[2]
Industry veteran Jim Stroesser was named President of Adio in December, 2009. He moved the world headquarters from Vista, California to Solana Beach, California in January, 2010.
In November 2010, Adio Footwear announced the disbanding of their skateboard team and moved their office to New York City.[3]
The company released the "Going Forward" video series produced by Mike Metcalf featuring athletes Joey Brezenski, Jordan Hoffart, Ronnie Creager, Chris Troy, Anthony Schultz, Nick Tucker, Luis "Moose" De Los Reyes, Aldrin Garcia and Elliot Sloan. In 2010 Adio released a new technology series of shoes featuring the SST (Specific Skate Technology) technology designed by industry veteran Marty Shadoan.
A major part of the company's success has been the endorsement of pop-punk bands such as Blink-182[4]. As of 2011, they have dropped their team riders. [5]
