Adimali (Malayalam: അടിമാലി) is a town in Idukki district of Kerala state, India.[1] Adimali is located on the National Highway 49 connecting Kochi and Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Munnar, a famous hill station is about 30 km northeast of Adimali. The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located nearby. Pepper cultivation is the main agricultural activity of this place.[2] Ponmudi Dam which is constructed across the Panniar river is about 15 km to the southeast of Adimali, on the way to Rajakkad. The dam built in 1963, has a length of 294 m. It is the fast developing Hill Town in Kerala because its attractive location and natural beauty. Kallar i s a beautiful place located just 14 km from Adimaly,kallar river is located here. It has almost all the basic facilitis, like well connected Roads, Educational Institutions and Hospitals.

The former name of Adimali area was Mannamkandam, as the name indicates it was the land of tribes called Mannan, other tribal group called Muthuvan is also living in Adimali area. Before 1980,the main cultivation was paddy and rice was the main production besides pepper and cardamom. Now almost 90 percent of paddy fields have had transformed into residential land,rubber plantations or banana fields.

Geography

Cheeyappara Waterfall

The major attraction of it is falling of water from a height of about 1000 feet and falls down with heavy force on 13 rock slabs step by step continuously to fall very close to the bridge across N.H.49. A rainbow is visible in the morning sunshine upon the spray of water. It is one of the few waterfalls one can view from the bottom standing so close to the water. Besides there is an area set a part touching the water fall to take bath safely using the cool spray water of the falls.

Valara Waterfall

Valara Water Fall is just one km from Cheeyapara Water Fall. This is formed as a result of the entire Deviyar River suddenly falling down from rock to rock from a height of 200 feet.

Adimaly Waterfall

It is another attractive alluring waterfall at Adimaly town. Adimaly waterfall is a distinct one in that one can view the water falling from Korangatty hills situated at a distance of one km from town.
