Adhyathmaramayanam is the Malayalam version of Ramayana written by Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan in the early 17th Century. It is considered to be a classic of Malayalam literature. Mandara Ramayana written by Mandhara Kesava Bhatta in Tulu language in the 16th century could be the closely related version of Ezhuthachans Ramayana.Ezhuthachan used the Tulu-Malayalam script to write his Ramayana though Vatteluttu writing system was the traditional writing system of Kerala then.
Traditionally, two ancient sources of Ramayana are, Valmiki Ramayan and Adhyatma Ramayana, and Tulsidas's Ramacharitamanas written in Hindi, Kamba Ramayanam (Ramakaadhai written in Tamil), and other versions in regional languages are with Valmiki Ramayan as their main source.
