Adamdighi (Bengali: আদমদিঘী) is an Upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Naming of this upazila or area as Adamdighi came from Adam's Dighi which means Adam's Tank. Adam was a great Muslim saint or dervish, known as Baba Adam(Bangla: বাবা আদম).

Baba Adam & Tank

Baba Adam is very popular among the people of the locality, and commands as much respect from Hindus as from Muslims. Baba Adam is said to have been a contemporary of the famous Rani Bhabani (1716–1795) of Natore, who it is said, with her characteristics magnanimity had a tank dug at the place and dedicated it to the saintly fakir in honour of his supernatural powers. This tank, which is a large one, still bears the name of the fakir as Adamdighi or the Adam's Tank.Rani Bhabani was born at Chhatin gram. Father name of Rani Bhabani "Attaram Chowdhury" There are 365 ancient ponds in the Chhatin gram.

Geography

Adamdighi is located at . It has 41,495 household units and a total area of 168.83 km² (approximately).[1]. Chhatin gram is a famous UP of Adamdighi Upazila. There are 365 ancient ponds in the Chhatin gram.

Administration

Adamdighi Thana, now an Upazila, was established in 1821. The upazila consists of six union parishads, one municipality named Santahar, 133 mouzas, and 179 villages. high production of fish of 'PANGASH'

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Adamdighi has a population of 170,326. Males constitute 51.63% of the population, and females 48.37%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 87,264. Adamdighi has an average literacy rate of 34.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[2]
