Acetanaerobacterium is a genus in the phylum Firmicutes (Bacteria).[1] The etymology of the genus is L. n. acetum, vinegar; Gr. pref. an (ἄν), not; Gr. n. aêr (ἀήρ), air; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Acetanaerobacterium, vinegar-[producing] anaerobic small rod.[2] The genus contains a single species namely A. elongatum ( Chen and Dong 2004, sp. nov.).[3]
