The Academy of Management (AOM, the Academy) is a professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations. The Academy of Management was established in 1936.[1] It provides a forum for university management professors and management professionals to present and publish their research and ideas.

Divisions

Upon registration, members of the Academy are granted memberships in 2 of its 25 divisions and interest groups; they may then pay an additional fee to join more. Each division has a unique focus in management issues and has its own governing officers. Currently, these divisions include: Business Policy & Strategy, Careers, Conflict Management, Critical Management Studies, Entrepreneurship, Gender & Diversity in Organizations, Health Care Management, Human Resources, International Management, Management Consulting, Management Education & Development, Management History, Management Spirituality & Religion, Managerial & Organizational Cognition, Operations Management, Organization & Management Theory, Organization Development & Change, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Communication & Information Systems, Organizations & The Natural Environment, Public & Nonprofit, Research Methods, Social Issues in Management, Strategizing Activities & Practice, Technology & Innovation Management.[2]

The publications of the Academy, which historically receive high Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) ratings,[3][4] include the following:

The first three journals were ranked in the top 40 business journals in the world by the Financial Times in 2006.[5] Both the Academy of Management Journal and the Academy of Management Review are ranked in the top 10 in SCImago Journal Rank in the "Business, Management and Accounting" category.[6]

Conferences

The Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, held each year in August, is the largest annual gathering of management scholars in the world[7] and is attended by more than 10,000 people. It provides a forum for sharing research and expertise in all management disciplines through invited and competitive paper sessions, panels, symposia, workshops, distinguished speakers, and special programs for doctoral students. The next meeting will be held in San Antonio, Texas in August (2011).
