Abhar (Persian: ابهر, also Romanized as Abkhar)[1] is a city in and capital of Abhar County, Zanjan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 70,836, in 19,136 families.[2]

Abhar is located between Qazvin and Zanjan, near the Abhar River. It is the second-largest city in the province after Zanjan.[3] It is a regional center for science because of its universities, which include Abhar Azad University, Payam Noor University, Sama and other science and cultural centers. It has an important role in Iran's transit because of having highways and railroads.

It is a big center of industrial manufacturers like Minoo, AWC, Medisk, Parsnakh and other well-known factories.
