A Night like This (song)
"A Night like This" is the second single by Dutch jazz singer Caro Emerald from her debut album Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor. It was released on 11 December 2009, after it was first presented in a Martini commercial in the Netherlands on 16 October.[1]
Writing and recording
In August 2009 Caro Emerald songwriters David Schreurs and Vince Degiorgio were asked to write a track with a "60s feel" for a Martini vermouth advertisement campaign.[2] The duo readily accepted the commission but grew increasingly unhappy about agreeing to give up the 40s/50s concept they had successfully cultivated with Caro Emerald, and five days of writing sessions proved unsuccessful.[2] On their final day together the writers decided they would return to their familiar era and compose another song for the debut Caro Emerald album. Schreurs told HitQuarters that he made the track for "A Night like This" while Degiorgio packed his bags and then the two "sat down for an hour and knocked out the song".[2] The song was submitted to Martini and although they initially turned it down they later changed their mind and used it in their campaign.[2]
The video for the song was shot in Opatija, Lovran and Rijeka in Croatia.
"A Night like This" has many musical similarities with the 1980s Brazilian song "Banho de Cheiro" by Elba Ramalho.[3]
