The 2nd Combat Weather Systems Squadron (2 CWSS), located at Hurlburt Field, Florida, in the United States, is the Air Force squadron equipped for the testing and evaluation of new and existing capabilities, for training Airmen on systems prior to deployment, and as support for Air Force Combat Weather Forces by the deployment of mobile teams to assist with setup, maintenance and theater logistics of tactical weather and communications systems. It is composed of the Current Operations and Exploitation Flight, the Testing and Evaluations Flight and the Training Flight. It also includes Operating Location Alpha at Camp Blanding, Florida to assist the Air National Guard in the training of Airmen in weather forecasting operations. The 2nd CWSS is a subordinate of the 2nd Weather Group.

The squadron has nine Air Force Specialties providing deployed weather equipment maintenance in Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and the Horn of Africa; Deployed Weather Systems Training for deployers and test & evaluation support for new Air Force weather systems.

Current Operations and Exploitation Flight Mission (DOO)

Maintains situational awareness on Weather Systems Support Cadre (WSSC) operations Coordinates theater Tactical Weather Systems (TWS) support requirements with Combatant Commands Coordinates systems upgrade/logistic support with vendors/contractors Ops checks, ship & tracks TWS initial/repair items to deployed WSSC Provides technical TWS expertise reach-back Searches out/exploits technologies to improve warfighter support Manages maintenance and status reporting for squadron equipment Maintains readiness cell…orchestrates all aspects of deployments

Training Flight Mission (DOT)

Conducts Tactical Weather System Training for deploying personnel Develops tactics, techniques & procedures (TTPs) for TWSs Assists in developing training on AF weather garrison/tactical systems Participates in Air Force Weather Agency Virtual Scientific Services (AFWVSS) Aids transition of weather, C2 technologies & concepts to base/post-level units Provides ANG Initial Skills Course follow-on training at Camp Blanding Weather Readiness Training Center (2 CWSS OL-A)

Testing Flight Mission (DOX)

Performs Developmental & Operational Test & Evaluation of formal weather system acquisitions to include garrison and tactical weather system and communication system capabilities. Identifies, evaluates and exploits new garrison/tactical level weather/communication systems concepts & solutions Provides demonstrations & participates in limited inter-agency experimentation
