2010–11 IFA Championship

IFA Championship
Season 2010–11

The 2010–11 IFA Championship (known as the Ladbrokes.com Championship for sponsorship reasons) will be the third season since its establishment after a major overhaul of the league system in Northern Ireland. The Championship is divided into two divisions, with the clubs in both divisions having intermediate status. Championship 1 serves as the second tier of Northern Irish football, with Championship 2 as the third tier. Loughgall were the defending champions of Championship 1.

Carrick Rangers secured the Championship 1 title and promotion to the IFA Premiership on 2 May 2011, after Limavady United failed to beat Ballymoney United, leaving them 7 points behind with only two games left to play.[1]

Warrenpoint Town achieved intermediate status for this season, and were elected to Championship 2 - increasing the division to 16 clubs. They went on to win the Championship 2 title after only one season in the division, and with it came promotion to Championship 1. Also promoted to Championship 1 were Tobermore United, who finished as runners-up.

Promotion/Relegation

One club is automatically promoted from Championship 1 to the IFA Premiership at the end of the season, and one club is relegated to Championship 1 from the Premiership. In addition, there is a play-off between the Championship 1 runners-up and the second-bottom-placed team in the Premiership.

In the event, however, that the Championship 1 winners do not possess a domestic licence, there is no automatic promotion and, instead, there is a play-off between the runners-up and the bottom-placed Premiership team. In the event that neither the Championship 1 winners nor the runners-up possess a domestic licence, there is no promotion.

This does not affect promotion and relegation between Championship 1 and 2, in which the bottom two clubs in Championship 1 get relegated to Championship 2, and the top two clubs in Championship 2 get promoted to Championship 1.
