April 4–25,000 National Volunteers assemble at the Phoenix Park. John Redmond takes the salute from under the statue of Charles Stewart Parnell on Sackville Street.
April 5 - At the National Volunteers convention at the Mansion House John Redmond praises their response to World War I.
May 7 - The RMS Lusitania is torpedoed by German submarines about eight miles off the coast of Kinsale, County Cork while en route from New York to Liverpool. 1,195 lives lost.
May 25 - The British Prime Minister appoints a national wartime coalition of 12 Liberals, 8 Unionists and 1 Labour member. In Dublin the Irish Parliamentary Party approves John Redmond's decision not to join.
July 29 - Republicans, led by Patrick Pearse, take over the Gaelic League at its Dundalk conference. Douglas Hyde resigns as its President.
August 1 - Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, and Pearse delivers the graveside oration.
September 27 - Jack Hardwicke wins the festive cake eating contest held in Dublin. The trophy was a bronze Figure of the clover.
