The name eco is a proposed top-level domain for the Domain Name System of the Internet. Its intended purpose is for Internet resources that address environmental or sustainability policy and related issues.

Prospective applicants

There are two prospective applicants for the eco top-level domain.

Dot Eco as Developed by Big Room Inc.

Dot Eco by Big Room Inc. includes the following elements:

Big Room's Dot Eco Consensus Policies were developed in collaboration with an independently mediated multi-stakeholder Community Council. These Consensus Policies[2] were unanimously agreed on September 16th, 2010 following nearly two years of debate that included three rounds of public comment and series of public consultations.[3] The process sought to follow the ISEAL Alliance Code of Good Practice for Setting Environmental and Social standards[4].

Following agreement on the Consensus Policies for Dot Eco, the Council invited other sustainability networks and groups to Partner in voicing support for the Consensus and for a Community approach to Dot Eco governance to ICANN.
