Club career

Í.B.V

Born and raised in the small town of Vestmannaeyjar, he grew up watching Í.B.V. and dreamed of having a chance to play for them one day. Very soon in his career he started training with older players, often showing up to their training uninvited.

2007

He got his debut for the first team in 2007 when Í.B.V. were playing in the second division. That year he played 12 games and got rave reviews for his performances, especially considering he was a mere 17 year old. Í.B.V. missed their chance for promotion though, but he was determined to help his team get to the Premier league where they belonged.

2008

2008 is generally considered Þórarinns' breakthrough season, he was essential in the Í.B.V. team when they won the second division, scoring 2 goals in 19 games. His partnership with his friend and mentor, Atli Heimisson, was a sight to see. It was fitting that at the annual Í.B.V. final party Atli was chosen as their best player while Þórarinn took the most promising player award.[2] His performances caught the eye of the Iceland U19 coach and he played 5 games that summer for the Iceland U19 national team. On January 5 news began to break out that the Belgian team KV Mechelen were showing Þórarinn interest. They offered him a trial with their first team and he spent a month in Belgium playing and training with their first team.[3] Even though KV Mechelen didn't offer him a contract it'd be stupid to assume they aren't tracking his progress.

2009

After a 5 year stint in the second division, the fans of Í.B.V. finally got to see their team among the best. The team had lost a lot of players and their team was amongst the youngest in the league so many pundits predicted them to go straight down. It was an uphill battle but in the end Í.B.V. prevailed, although it was too close for comfort for many of their supporters. Þórarinn again played 19 games and scored 1 goal.

2010

2010 saw the return of a fan favorite, Tryggvi Guðmundsson, who was supposed to guide the younger players in their process and maybe even give them a chance of some silverware. This was a perfect move by the Í.B.V. coach, Heimir Hallgrímsson. Tryggvi scored 9 goals in his 21 game, adding a lot of assists in the way. This seemed to help the team considerably, and many of them made great strides in their process, especially Þórarinn. Þórarinn went on to play the best season of his career, playing 21 games and adding 5 goals to help his teams cause. He found himself as a fan favorite and he thrived under the pressure of being in contention for the title. Although many pundits believed Í.B.V. to struggle, Í.B.V. found themselves at the top of the league until August and eventually ended up in third place, losing out on the title in the last game of the season. Þórarinns' performances saw him in the Team of the Round in the 7th,[4] 9th,[5] 12th,[6] 16th[7] and 18th.[8] On the 5th of December he signed a new, 3 year, contract with Í.B.V. Shortly afterwards he was selected for Icelands' first Futsal team.
