This is a list of episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants, an animated television series broadcast on Nickelodeon, an American cable network. SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on May 1, 1999[1] and is currently in its sixth season. Each season consists of twenty episodes. As of October 27, 2009, a total of 112½ episodes have aired. Each episode consists of either two eleven-minute shorts, three seven-minute shorts, a twenty-two minute special, or a forty-five minute television movie. An additional 26½ episodes have yet to air. As of October 27, 2009, the total number of episodes individually is 218.
A feature film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie complements the series, and premiered in theaters in the United States on November 19, 2004. In season five, the series' first television movie, Atlantis SquarePantis, premiered on November 12, 2007 after a marathon. There have been many marathons in which viewers vote for their favorite episodes. One of the more notable marthons is the Best Day Ever marathon,[2][3][4][5] which aired from November 9–10, 2006. "Karate Island" was named the best episode ever to date by voters. Five of the seasons are all avaliable on DVD.[6]

The first season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on May 1, 1999, but officially first aired on July 17, 1999.[1] The season ended on April 8, 2000. The DVD for the season was released in Regions 1, 2, and 4 on October 28, 2003, November 7, 2005, and November 30, 2006, respectively. The pilot episode, "Help Wanted" was not included on the season one DVD, due to copyright issues. The aforementioned episode was included as a bonus feature on a future season's DVD.

The third season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on October 5, 2001, with the episodes "Just One Bite" and "The Bully." The season ended on October 11, 2004 with "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler" and "Pranks a Lot." The DVD for the season was released in Regions 1, 4 and 2 on September 27, 2005, November 8, 2007 and December 3, 2007 respectively. Following the season three finale, the series entered a hiatus that would last for over six months. During the hiatus, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie entered theaters.

The fifth season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on February 19, 2007, with the episodes "Rise and Shine," "Waiting," and "Sing a Song of Patrick." The season has, thus far, consisted of 19.5 episodes. "Goo Goo Gas," episode 98b, has not aired yet. Just like in season four, the season DVDs were split by volume. The sixth season of SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on March 3, 2008,[27] with the episode "Krabby Road." The season has, thus far, consisted of 14 episodes. This season is currently airing. "Slide Whistle Stooges", episode 105b, "The Truth of Gold", "Cephalopod Lodge", as well an additional 5.5 episodes have not been aired yet. The first 5 episodes aired as part of the Gimme 5! Week. The next 5 new episodes have aired in the first week of June 2008 which is mainly titled SpongeBob Premiere Factor 5 (or SPF 5). Another premiere week aired August 4-8, called Bikini Bottom Confidential. Seven new premieres of Season six aired during Super Stuffed Nicktoons Weekend.
