[edit] License tagging for Image:X28.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:X28.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] VR Locos

G'day I found your series of loco articles and wanted to help develop them further, the template seemed the most logical starting point. I've been pondering what to do with the diesel fleet as it is a bit of a mixed bag, with most being modified off the shelf products. My own view was to write specific VR articles and at a minimum link back to the parent products, as in most cases there were significant differences that make the VR versions unique in their own right.

I've spent most of the evening looking at how to deliniate the whole lot. My best thought was to leave the steam group as is, and then sub-divide the diesels into the VR group and include the A class, the N class and the P class in seperate, but linked, articles. The template can then be modified to list VR steam, VR railcars, VR diesels, post VR diesels and post VR railcars, which brings us right up to the the V'Locity sets. In the steam group I was planning to add a separate section for the Na and G locos.

I've also added the template to the bottom of the last section of each article, which in some cases is Preservation, in one case in Modelling and another Other Liveries. Is there a case for settling on a standardised format for all the pages and the template going at the bottom after them? Jaxsonjo 12:28, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shostakovitch infobox

Actually, part of my thinking was that it was too broad, and misleading. Shostakovitch a Romantic? Well, yes, but a Romantic in the same sense as Weber or Verdi? Well, no: the infobox is misleading. Part of many reasons why these boxes for composer articles are not needed. Cheers, Moreschi Talk 19:29, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zzrbiker/Victorian Railways L class (electric)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Zzrbiker/Victorian Railways L class (electric), by Grahamec, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Zzrbiker/Victorian Railways L class (electric) fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

This is obviously an erroneous duplicate of Victorian Railways L class electric, but no point converting to redirect

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Zzrbiker/Victorian Railways L class (electric), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Zzrbiker/Victorian Railways L class (electric) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 08:28, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trains portal DYK items

Thanks for suggesting so many DYK items for Portal:Trains. Since I'm on vacation until August 5, my internet connectivity is somewhat curtailed (the hotel I'm in this week charges $13/day to connect; I'll be in a different city next week, so I may be more active then). Would you be able to update the portal DYK section with one of these suggestions per day if I don't get to it by mid-morning? I've updated today's entry and I've already got the selected article and pictures set up for the next two weeks, and I've also got the archive page ready for August 1. AdThanksVance. Slambo 42 (unprivileged login of Slambo) - T 15:52, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Way cool, thanks! Yes, there is a lot of copy/paste. I typically open the candidates page in one tab, the edit link for the DYK section in a second tab and the archive page in a third tab. I then copy the oldest suggestion that covers a region not already listed in the section to the top of the section (I also check the links and verify that the suggested image is under a free license, and put the date that I added it there in an HTML comment), remove the bottom item from the section, and copy the whole thing to the current archive page. The main archive page will automatically display the current month's archive, so I just hit the edit link for the month section there and add the new entry to the top with a <br clear=all> after the HTML comment. Then I update the article's talk page to put the appropriate date in the portaldykdate parameter of the {{TrainsWikiProject}} banner, and I remove the suggestion from the candidates list. It usually takes me somewhere between 10-20 minutes per day depending on the number of links (since I check all of them as well as the image). I don't think anyone will really notice if it's updated in the evening or in the morning, and I have missed a few days in the past (when a day is skipped, I put it in the HTML comments too).
Now that the NMRA convention has actually begun, there's plenty for me to see and do (and way too many models for me to spend my money on). Slambo 42 (unprivileged login of Slambo) - T 01:20, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help while I was out on vacation. I'm back now and getting in to wading through about a thousand photos that I took, many of which will appear on commons soon. Slambo (Speak) 10:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:WCRlogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:WCRlogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:24, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Harold Winthrop Clapp

Nice work on the article! By the way I've been digging up bits and pieces on gauge standardisation in Australia - it probably fits into a renamed Australian broad gauge. Wongm (talk) 11:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I seem to have got into the habit of looking through DYK nominations for articles where in pu from the Gazette would help, he looked like a fairly likely candidate for an honour, so I looke dhim up, and for once the search pulled him straight up which doesn't always happen. If you're looking for confirmation of similar info in future, the search page is here, and because the indexing is sometimes a bit off, I've been creating a list at User:David Underdown/Honours collating all the honours lists, so if you know the year an honours was awarded, you can look them up fairly quickly there. The London Gazette is the definitive source for all British Honours, military decorations and so on, whether awarded to British or Commonwealth citizens. [edit] Harold Clapp

Updated DYK query On 16 May 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Harold Clapp, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] License tagging for Image:LNER 4472 Seymour 1988.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:LNER 4472 Seymour 1988.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:05, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
