[edit] Images

Hey, Zxtreme. It's great that you're diving right in to providing images for Doctor Who articles. Aesthetically, the images you're adding are improvements to the pages. However, there are some rather complex rules about what constitutes fair use for images. As a rule, Wikipedia prefers screenshots to publicity images, and frowns on images with a source's label on (like the bbc.co.uk/doctorwho label on the image you put on the TARDIS page), which is why your additions are being reverted. I don't really understand all the ins and outs of it myself, but you might want to take a look at WikiProject Fair Use before adding any more BBC-owned images. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 16:17, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I speedied some of them as the disclaimer on the gallery page says "THE BBC MAKES THESE IMAGES AVAILABLE ONLY AS DESKTOP WALLPAPER FOR PC OR MOBILE." --TimPope 22:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Flandersandswann.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Flandersandswann.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 05:29, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
