Church Doctrines/Outer Darkness
Love your changes and enthusiasm "z." Welcome to the Wiki. We need more people like you in here.
Over the past few months we've been trying to be very careful about what is commonly believed in the church and official doctrine - that is why you are seeing (and removing) a lot of "commonly believe," "according to X source" and "Latter-day saints say." This is to clarify the common, not-necessarily-correct things taught both by latter-day saints and non-Lds on the Wiki.
For example (aside from my recent rants about outer darkness), a recent edit to Son of Perdition it states:
"It is taught that, in the pre-mortal life, they chose to follow a plan proposed by Satan, rather than the one proposed by Jesus Christ."
The problem with this sentence is that the plan was not proposed by Jesus Christ, rather it was the Father's plan who may or may not have asked for a sustaining vote. Satan proposed an alternate plan to the Father's and Adam and those who supported the Father had a "war." The opposition forces were not Jesus versus Lucifer (Christ and Satan are definately not opposites - nothing can be equally bad as Christ is good. The opposite of God is non-existance), but rather Adam (or Michael) and his followers against Satan and his followers.
I am rather asinine about doctrinal issues on the Wiki, since there are enough misperceptions about us out of the Church, regardless of the speculative nature of us LDS. I think Frecklefood and BoNoMoJo would agree I take it too far, but that we have to get things right - hence all the "teach" "believe" and "commonly thought" comments in the articles.
Please visit Common Latter-day Saint perceptions and Naming conventions (Mormonism) as well as reference to talk pages of Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Christianity and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thanks again for giving us a fresh look. Feel free to post comments here or on my talk page. Visorstuff 20:09, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Ahh I see... I shall go back over the things I've changed/added and make sure they have the proper wording. Zulugrid 22:12, 21 Nov 2003 (UTC)
Joseph Smith Jr.
When you get a chance would you rescour the Joseph Smith, Jr. page. Its getting pretty hairy and you have a good style of cleaning up things. Sure appreciate it. Visorstuff 01:26, 25 Nov 2003 (UTC)
