Zuarungu is a town in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Zuarungu was formerly a regional capital, until Bolgatanga, four miles to the west, offered land to build a hospital, and the seat of government was moved there. The people of Zuarungu are mostly Frafra people with a small minority of workers and immigrants from nearby areas and other regions of Ghana. Zuarungu has seen little development.
The Nkrumah government established a meat factory in Zuarungu, which was a core economic benefit for the people. The factory is now closed down due to mismanagement and corruption.
Zuarungu has numerous primary and junior secondary schools. The Zuarungu Senior Secondary school is located on the former campus of an Anglican vocational school.
Annual Agricultural Shows were held here in Zuarungu where harvests and various types of farming technologies were displayed. Unfortunately, these shows ceased many years ago.
