[edit] Playing
Filipović made his name as a potent forward with Red Star Belgrade, winning two league titles and a national cup during his ten seasons at the club (1970-1980). He was the Yugoslav First League topscorer in 1976/77 season with 21 goals. He also still holds the club record for most goals in European competitions - scoring 39 goals for Red Star in European Cup, Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Cup. Filipović played the total of 477 competitive matches for Red Star, scoring 302 goals (these two figures include all competitions in all age levels Filipovic played for Red Star).
His first stop abroad was a season at Club Brugge in Belgium. He later went on to play three seasons for SL Benfica (1981-1984) where he scored 28 goals in 54 league games for the Portuguese Champions. Zoran also guided the club Benfica to the 1983 UEFA Cup Final against Anderlecht, being the top scorer of the competition. Filipović ended his career with Boavista FC (1984-1986).
Despite his impressive goalscoring exploits on the club level, Filipović played only 13 matches for the Yugoslav national team scoring 2 goals.
[edit] Coaching
Filipović began his coaching career with several stints in Portugal. After three seasons as an assistant in Boavista, he got a head coaching job at S.C. Salgueiros in 1988 and stayed with the club for five seasons. In 1993 he moved to S.C. Beira-Mar where he coached for a season.
Filipović was on the FR Yugoslavia national team coaching staff at the World Cup 1998 as an assistant to Slobodan Santrač.
He then worked as part of Sampdoria coaching staff under the tutelage of head coach Vujadin Boškov during his short second stint with the club in 1998/99 season.
Filipović was reunited with Vujadin Boškov when he took over the FR Yugoslavia national team in summer 1999. Filipovic was one of his assistants at the Euro 2000.
For two seasons between 2001 and 2003, Filipović coached Red Star Belgrade.
[edit] Montenegro National Team
On 1 February 2007 he was appointed the first coach of the newly created Montenegro national team. His first game in charge was a friendly against Hungary on 24 March 2007. [1]
