CiffiO is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) being developed by a currently unnamed development studio.

"The name CiffiO is derived from the abbreviation CO, which were the initials for the game's original title, "Captive Online". After the old name was scrapped, vast quantities of time spent being uncreative resulted in Sci-Fi Online being fused with CO, thus creating CiffiO." [1]

CiffiO's plot is based around conflicts which have broken out in various parts of the galaxy. The developers are not comfortable in disclosing more information at this time.

[edit] Gameplay

At any given time, someone playing CiffiO will be under the control of up to (and most often equal to) four different "droids". These droids are used as the player's connection into the world of the game.

[edit] "Droid" System

In CiffiO, droids are used instead of a character. To form a comparison, Guild Wars allows the player to control of one character. The player role plays as that character. In CiffiO, the player is a person behind a computer, controlling droids via a remote connection. The player controls all active droids all of the time.

Each droid has many separate parts which together form the droid. The standard droid has one head, one torso, two legs, two arms, two hands, and two feet. More information on this system will be revealed over time.

In CiffiO, skills are assigned to individual droid chips.

Each droid has a central chip which dictates its attributes. These chips gain experience over time, and that experience can be spent on different attributes. For example, if a chip gains enough experience to be able to advance a level in Brawling, one of the basic combat skills, the player may decide to spend that chip's experience on that chip's Brawling stat. The level increases by one, and the required amount of experience is deducted from that chip's count.

The items a droid can use, the parts the droid can equip, the amount of damage a droid can inflict or withstand and more are all largely dependent on the droid chip.

[edit] Trade Skills

CiffiO's trade skills will function as could be imagined, as many other online games include them in a similar way. CiffiO will include a Factory, one attributed to every player, at which a player may create items.

Some examples of trade skills include:

  • Mining (done via mining robots)
  • Gem cutting (to create special gems used in other trade skills, which hold a significant market value)
  • Metallurgy (refining minerals, working with the metal produced)
  • Power core tuning (uses Gems to create power cores)
  • Droid Manufacturing (combines many ingredients to create various droid parts and skeletons)

CiffiO is planned to feature a large variety of weapons to assist in customizing game play. Some examples include:

  • Fisticuffs (for example, a baseball bat)
  • Blades (a sword)
  • Handguns
  • Rifles

The aspiration for weapons goes beyond the above listed weapon types in the form of Weapon Tiers. The Tier system of CiffiO will create different sects of weapons, different sects offering different usage for droids. This may be where droid skill is based: Tier usage. (As opposed to skill with individual weapon types.)
