[edit] Background

Formed in 2001 by Simon Berglund, Christoffer Wikström, and Mikael Hammarberg, the band originally went under the name Seal Precious.[1][2] Initially the band featured a power metal style, with clean vocals.[3] Several line-up changes prevented the band from recording for the first few years of the inception. In 2003 with the addition of second guitarist, Emil Nyström the band would change their name to Zonaria. Zonaria then spent two years playing gigs in and around Umeå before recording in the studio. In 2005, the band recorded what would be Evolution Overdose and released it in May, 2005.[4] Following the release of the demo, the band again would suffer through changes in the line-up, which ended with the announcement of drummer Emanuel ”Cebbe” Isaksson and bassist Jerry Ekman. Evolution Overdose would catch the attention of then, upstart independent record label Pivotal Rockordings but would not land them a deal.

[edit] New material and touring

In the spring of 2006, Zonaria found themselves in the studio laying down new material for the CD single, "Rendered In Vain". It was then, Zonaria would begin to tour outside of Sweden, opening up for Finnish black metal band Impaled Nazarene on a European tour.[5] Zonaria also shot a video for the song "Rendered in Vain" with Standard Film Team. In October, Zonaria announced they had signed a record deal with Swedmetal Records to release their single "Rendered in Vain".[6] The song, "Rendered in Vain" would also be featured in the video game, The Darkness.[7]

[edit] Record label and debut album

In November of 2006, Pivotal Rockordings signed Zonaria to a recording contract.[8] Quickly after the signing, the band entered Black Lounge Studios with Per Nilsson and Jonas Kjellgren of Scar Symmetry to begin recording their debut album. Their full length debut, entitled Infamy and the Breed was released on September, 2007.[9] In late July, bassist Jerry Ekman announced his departure. He was replaced by Markus Åkebo. The band more recently made a video for the lead single, "The Armageddon Anthem." The music video was "shot in the largest crane factory in Scandinavia."[10] Zonaria also toured much of Europe in the beginning of 2008 opening up for Marduk[11]. They are currently slated to tour Europe later in the fall with Vader and Septic Flesh[12].
