[edit] Background
The name "Zoic" is derived from a Greek word meaning "life". The company was formed when three of the principals left Santa Monica, California special effects company Radium, taking many long established accounts with them.
[edit] Products
Zoic provides Post-Production, Project Management, Design Services and Media Applications to the entertainment industry. They have production facilities in Culver City, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and a shooting stage in North Hollywood, California.
[edit] Movies and television
Zoic has created effects for such popular TV shows as CSI, CSI: Miami, Firefly (which earned the team an Emmy), Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as well as the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. They have also worked on numerous feature films, including Spider-Man 2, The Day After Tomorrow and Serenity, and also computer video games and effects for television commercials.
The company is best known for their simulation of hand-held camera work in computer-generated effects shots, a technique commonly known as "shaky-cam."
