[edit] Molise
Čudi me mnogo onaj članak Molise Slavic language. Ne razumijem u lemu je problem - zar nismo 'svi' (100%) glasali za move na Molise Croatian language? --HolyRomanEmperor 21:38, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I would also like to discuss making Portal:Croats. I noticed that there is none. --147.91.8.10 01:26, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Language/dialect
Firstly, the user page of the administrator FrancisTyers has a quote: Properly, the language/dialect distinction is, in the pure logical sense, meaningless. It seems that he is supporting an opinion contradicting what is generally considered as truth (i.e. that the language/dialect distinction is meaningful). Therefore, he is biased in this area.
:)))
Have you ever studied linguistics? Please find me a linguist who; 1. Says that the distinction between a language and a dialect is meaningful, and 2. Gives linguistic criteria for distinguishing a language as distinct from a dialect.
Note: I'm talking about real linguists, not folk linguists.
Happy hunting! Oh, and perhaps you'd like to write to Dr. McWhorter informing him of the terrible mistake he has made! While you're at it I suggest you send a copy to Prof. Chomsky too, he'll enjoy the laugh! :) - FrancisTyers 22:29, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- Administrators shouldn't be sarcastic. I wrote what I did in good faith. I'm sorry, your attitude makes it impossible for me to discuss my opinions with you. --Zmaj 07:24, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

- My apologies, you are right, I should have assumed good faith. In future however I recommend that you do some research before branding someones view as "contradicting what is generally considered the truth". I was blunt, but you were careless. Thanks and I hope you don't hold this against me. - FrancisTyers 18:11, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

- Apology accepted, no offense taken. Now let me explain my reasons. I was too rash in calling you "biased", but it seems to me that you stated your opinion about a concrete dialect based on purely linguistic ideas. It's OK for a purely linguistic discussion, but it was out of place on that page. For example, from a purely linguistic standpoint, it could be argued that Croatian and Serbian are the same language with only minor variations, like American and British English. But for many non-linguistic reasons, which are very important, they are officially known as two languages. Same here - there are important non-linguistic reasons why Molise Croatian is a dialect and not a language, all expounded on its main page, talk page or the links. I suppose that every scientist feels a bit frustrated when real life comes barging into their theoretical schemes, but that's how it is. --Zmaj 12:27, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] the 194.106.187.* guy
Hi there, I see you have been reverting this guy on some articles. Maybe you could add List of rulers of Croatia to your watchlist, this guy removes mention of Croatia from this article and I don't want to break 3rr rule, so I could need a hand there... --Dijxtra 01:48, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I'll do that. --Zmaj 07:32, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Some guy
Please stop inserting Pan Croatian propaganda into wikipedia. It is considered vandalism!
[edit] Medula
Well, he changed the Battle of Vukovar article again. I won't revert it again, I got other articles that require attention, and I really don't want to be drawn into "who started the war" argument. So, please, keep an eye on the article, and i'll back you up if you want to fight it out with this guy. I tried my best to stay reasonable, but I'm afraid that if I have to explain my position to that half-literate vandal once more i'll shoot my monitor. --Dr.Gonzo 22:06, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Same user (Medula) keeps messing with the History of Croatia article. Is there anzthing that can be done to prevent him from future vandalism? Please, if you can, add the page to your watchlist. EurowikiJ 13:32, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Will do. If he gets out of hand I'll ask for temporary ban, and maybe page protection. --Dr.Gonzo 15:24, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks Gonzo. EurowikiJ 15:32, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

- An update on the vandal in question. He has been modifying the following pages: Dalmatia, Hvar, Slunj, London Pact (claiming that Dalmatia and so on have been promised to Serbia and offering several Serbian sites (Serbian Union Congress etc.) as evidence). EurowikiJ 20:32, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Croats
I declare offically created! --HolyRomanEmperor 23:08, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Can anyone tell me what the purpose of this portal is. As far as I can tell the only other nation to organize such a portal are the Serbs. No one else. Not the British, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Slovenes etc. In fact in the directory of the portals they are listed under
-
- Culture & Society:
- European Union · Mythology · Schools/University · Serbs · Sexuality
- I mean it is ridiculous.
- There is however
-
- Geography portal:
- Regions of the world: Africa · Asia · Caribbean · Europe · Latin America · Middle East · Oceania
- Sovereign states: Algeria · Australia · Bangladesh · Belarus · Brazil · Bulgaria · Canada · China (PRC) · Colombia · Estonia · Finland · France · Germany · Greece · Hungary · India · Israel · Japan · Lithuania · Macedonia · Malaysia · Mexico · Morocco · Netherlands · New Zealand · Peru
- · Philippines · Poland · Portugal · Romania · Russia · Singapore · South Africa · Spain · Ukraine · United Kingdom · United States · Venezuela · Western Sahara
- So, if there is really a need for a such portal to be organized (and I have my doubts about it), it should be under Croatia heading. Although, having to cope with a flood of vandals on the existing pages related to Croatian matters should be enough. There is no need to open a new front. EurowikiJ 12:55, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
