Ziyaret is the Turkish term for a place of pilgrimage. It literally means 'meeting'. It seems to be derived from Ziyarat, a Persian term for an Islamic pilgrimage, which itself is derived from the Arabic Ziyarah.
There are many ziyaret in Turkey -- however, the secular government has strongly discouraged open displays of Muslim piety. The ziyaret have either been turned into museums, or closed.
