Coordinates: 30°39′N 76°49′E / 30.65, 76.82 Zirakpur is a town and a Municipal council in Mohali district in the Indian state of Punjab. It is located near the state capital, Chandigarh. It is on the Chandigarh- Delhi highway and just south of the city. It is at a distance of 4km from Chandigarh airport. Driving to Zirakpur from Delhi there is a right turn to go to Panchkula and onward to Simla. And a left turn to Patiala. Panchkula is 5 k.m. from Zirakpur. Zirakpur have borders touching Chanidgarh (Union Territory) & Panchkula (Haryana).

After assessing cities on the basis of five key parameters — real estate, people, physical infrastructure, social infrastructure and business environment — the study concluded that India’s hottest emerging city is Chandigarh. India's first planned city got top ranking for the potential of its real estate market, physical infrastructure and business environment. While there is little space left within the city itself, Chandigarh scores because of the rapid development taking place on its outskirts, in areas like Panchkula, Mohali, Zirakpur and Dera Bassi on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway. Good connectivity, low operational costs and high disposable income also contributed to it being declared India’s hottest emerging city.

A four lane flyover is being constructed by NHAI through Zirakpur. Tentative date of completion of project is November 2008. The four lanning of Zirakpur-Panchkula-Kalka road has also started.

Zirakpur lies in Banur assembly constituency of Punjab.

Located just near the new overhead bye-pass under construction on 'Y' form of Delhi-Chandigarh-Shimla highway on 3,50,000 sqft area, this shall become the hub of entertainment for the people living near Chandigarh, Patiala, Panchkula, and Ambala.

As of 2001 India census,^[1] Zirakpur had a population of 25,006. Males constitute 57% of the population and females 43%. Zirakpur has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 56%. In Zirakpur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
