Talk:ZipTorrent
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
People need to look into the accuracy of this article. I have just been informed the ZipTorrent was created by a company called Media Defender. From the articles I have read, it appears that ZipTorrent hinders the P2P bittorrent networks by sending useless data.
Here is an article about it: [1]

- I second that. I added a disputed message until this is sorted out. Roger 01:44, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

- It's a different client. MediaDefender's is just a modification of Azureus. User:richiemcintosh 10:37PM, 17 July 2007 (EST)

- If it IS a different client, the entry should at least make note of the fact that there is another client out there, also named "ZipTorrent," that is indeed "Fuxxing up P2P for the rest of us" Wuriz 03:55, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Wuriz

- It maybe a different client, but the identification sent in the headers is ZipTorrent, so there should be some type of mention about the Azureus modification called ZipTorrent, that is used to poison swarms with bad data. User:stingerblue 19:37PM, 17 July 2007 (BST)

- To further confuse matters, the recent leaked MediaDefender emails suggest that it wasn't their work, vis:

It's not us, it's MediaSentry. I'm looking into it but haven't spotted their IPs yet on several of the torrents I tried of this video game. -TH ________________________________ From: Gerald Rode Sent: Monday, July 16, 2007 2:30 PM To: torrents Subject: Ernesto At Work http://torrentfreak.com/ziptorrent-pollutes-and-slows-down-popular-torrents/ -Gerald

[edit] Old ZipTorrent(2005) vs New Ziptorrent(2007)
I propose renaming: "ZipTorrent(original)" and "ZipTorrent(MediaDefender)". I added an italics alert line to reduce any confusion. This article could use a clearer division point than "Controversy." Perhaps "MediaDefender subsumes ZipTorrent Name"? --Lexein 05:24, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
