Jim Scarborough is prepared to ride a zip line down to the next platform in the trees of the Costa Rican rainforest near Arenal Volcano on March 15, 2002. A steel cable spans the distance between two trees. The rider is attached to the cable by a pulley, two ropes, and a harness. The specialized glove in his right hand allows him to limit his speed. A cable only wrapped around a single tree at each platform provides safety while riders change cables from arriving to departing. The two ropes allow for one rope to be manipulated while the other remains attached to a cable for safety.
