Zimmer Holdings Inc. NYSEZMH is the world leader in orthopaedic implants. It is headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana, United States. Its products include knee, hip, shoulder and spinal implants along with fracture/trauma and orthopaedic surgical products. Zimmer was founded in 1927 by Justin O. Zimmer, a salesman for Revra DePuy. It was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1972. In 2001, Zimmer was spun off from Bristol-Myers Squibb. In 2003, Zimmer acquired Centerpulse AG, a Swiss-based orthopaedic manufacturer.

In September 2007, Zimmer, Johnson & Johnson's DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., Smith & Nephew PLC and Biomet Inc. entered into settlement agreements, through which they will pay $300m in total, adopt industry overhauls and corporate monitoring to avoid criminal charges of conspiracy.

Under the terms of the settlement, Zimmer entered into a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, under which they will pay a civil settlement amount of $169.5 million and will be subject to oversight by a federal monitor appointed by the U.S. Department of Justice for 18 months. In addition, all employees were required to undergo Department of Justice-approved corporate compliance training.
