[edit] Background

The Zimbabwean population in Britain has been changing rapidly for two reasons, both of which mean that the 2001 figures are almost certainly substantially out of date. The 2001 UK Census registered 49,000 Zimbabweans living in the UK, and on top of illegal immigration, the expansion of the NHS and President Robert Mugabe political regime (leading to asylum seekers) means that in 2007 The British Zimbabwean population is likely to be double if not triple official numbers.

[edit] Population Distribution

Over half of Zimbabwean British people reside in London, and almost all in South East London. The Zimbabwean population in the UK stood at 21,427 in 1991, and now is estimated to be over 100,000. Astonishingly only 28 Zimbabweans lived in Luton in 1991, and 10 years later in 2001 the Zimbabwean community had a population of almost 500 [2].
