Zijad Zijo Subasic

Zijad (Zijo) Subasic was a resistance leader in Višegrad in the 1992-1995 Serbian aggression.[1] He was a founding member of the Patriotic League (Patriotska Liga) in Višegrad. After being wounded in a street battle with Serb militia's in 1992, he was taken to the hospital in Foča which was still in Bosnian government control. After Foča was occupied by Yugoslav People's Army (Jugoslovenska Narodna Armija), he was taken out of the hospital, brought back to Višegrad and murdered on the Mehmed-paša Sokolović bridge.[2] A strategic location which was used by the Serb Army to murder Bosniak civilians during the war. Today, Zijo Subasic is considered a hero among many former citizens of Višegrad.
