1897 Emil Ziehl developed the first external rotor motor. 1910 he founded the Ziehl-Abegg Electricity Company in Berlin. In the post-war year of 1949, Ziehl-Abegg OHG was reconstructed by the brothers Guenther and Heinz Ziehl in Kuenzelsau. The production of the external rotor motor as a motor for fans began 1960. 1973 was the beginning of internationalisation and since 2001 Ziehl-Abegg has been a family owned, joint-stock company. Subsidiaries are in Poland, China, Russia, USA, Czech Republic, Sweden, Great Britain, Finland, France, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Austria, Ukraine, Spain, Benelux, South Africa, Japan & Turkey.

Concerning ventilation technology Ziehl-Abegg provides axial and centrifugal fans as well as electronic control systems. In the sector of drive technology elevator machines and motors with matching control technology are developed and manufactured.

The company founded 1945 in Kirchseeon nearby Munich was taken over by the Ziehl-Abegg group in 1999. Sued-Electric develops and manufactures electric motors as well as complete fan units for industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning and consists of approximately 70 employees (on 7.422 m²).

is a constructor of internal and external rotor asynchronous motors, electronic switching equipment and complete ventilation systems for industrial refrigeration, air-conditioning, agriculture, heating, industrial ventilation and the ventilation of machine tools. Ziehl-Abegg FMV is located in Villieu nearby Lyon in France and employs 124 employees (on 10.000 m²).
