Zhukovka

Zhukovka (Russian: Жу́ковка) is a town in Bryansk Oblast, Russia, situated on the left bank of the Desna River (Dnieper's basin) 56 kilometers (35 mi) north-west of Bryansk. Population: 19,731 (2002 Census);[1] 19,706 (1989 Census).[2]
It was founded in 1868 as a railway station on the Oryol–Riga railroad, better known as Riga — Orel Railway. In following years the settlement grew around the Zhukovka station. The 43 km branch line diverses to Kletnya. Town status was granted to it in 1962. In 1914 there were less than 2.000 inhabitants. It was captured by the Germans on August 24, 1941.
